The Defense Department says it plans to overhaul Stars and Stripes, the storied military newspaper that has long enjoyed editorial independence, to rid it of “woke distractions” and refocus coverage on “warfighting.”

“The Department of War is returning Stars & Stripes to its original mission: reporting for our warfighters,” Parnell wrote, using the Trump administration’s preferred name for the Defense Department. He wrote that the Pentagon will “modernize” the publication and “refocus its content away from woke distractions that syphon morale, and adapt it to serve a new generation of service members.”

The Roskomnadzor (the federal communications regulator) has the authority to disconnect the Russian internet segment (Runet) from external sources at whim. As of September 1, 2025, Russians face a 5,000 ruble fine for “intentionally searching extremist materials.” This was significant as it was the first time Russia punished citizens for viewing prohibited online content.

We will see governments continually restrict internet access in the years ahead as each nation aims to create a digital firewall to protect its citizens from sharing information, or worse, collaborating against the regimes controlling them.

The Federal Aviation Administration posted a series of messages cautioning about a “potentially hazardous situation,” citing the chance for interference to the Global Navigation Satellite System. “The FAA issued flight advisory Notices to Airmen for specified areas of Mexico, Central America, Panama, Bogota, Guayaquil and Mazatlan Oceanic Flight Regions, and in airspace within the eastern Pacific Ocean,” an FAA spokesperson said.

The advisory remains in effect for 60 days.

The Liberal government plans to announce details of its national program to compensate owners of banned firearms at a briefing in Montreal on Saturday.

I assume they are three year old lease returns. I’ll tell you why. The newer the cars are, the worse they, are because they are too complicated and too electronically involved, bigger touch screens, having to take your eyes off the road.

Sensors, relays, modules cameras etc all around them, making them very expensive to fix after they are out of warrantee as they get older. Even skilled mechanics have trouble trying to figure out what a problem is.

There is a junk yard nearby, and every time I ride by there, there are many good looking late model cars, no body damage, being recycled because they are too expensive to fix.

Plus they can track you, see how fast you were going, when you hit the brakes, and they can shut your car off. Too many things that can go wrong. Any engineer KNOWS keep it simple stupid.

I remember the cars from the 1950s and 1960s. Very simple high quality and easy to fix even at home with out all the expensive scanners etc the mechanics need. My newest car is a 2001 GMC Jimmy, a 1968 GMC Jimmy and I have a short bed 1989 Chevy van I bought new.

I always remembered 20 wt oil in the winter and 30 wt oil in the summer. When I bought the 1989 Chevy van, and went to change the oil it said use 5W30. I picked up a bottle and it called it “energy saving oil”.

I said huh? I don’t care about miles per gallon, figuring the climate laws wanted lighter oil to make it easier for the crank shaft to spin thru the oil in the crank case.

So I bought straight 30 weight heavy duty diesel grade oil ever since, all stop and go and lots of idling and I have 215,000 miles on it, and it does not burn any oil at all.

I can well afford to buy an expensive SUV cash but I simply do not like all the complex electronics in them.

I forgot to mention my son and his wife bought a new Infinity. She was trying to back out of the driveway, and the car braked and went into park. She called the dealer to pick it up. The problem?? The rear door on the passenger side was ajar. So you can’t back up with a door open.

Also when you are driving the steering wheel tries to correct your steering by resisting you if you change lanes without putting the directional on. My other son rented a new Camry for a trip and he noticed it every time he tried to change lanes because it was not necessary with no other cars on the road to see them.

Also the rental guy phoned him asking how he was doing? We think he got notified about the lane changes with no signal. My son just forced the steering wheel. NEW CARS ARE JUNK THROW AWAYS. In fact they depreciate too much.
