Today’s silver price in 1980 US dollars.
When we look at a long term silver chart, there are 3 peaks, going back to 1980.
Looking at the VALUE of the 1980 $50 peak today, Grok, using ShadowStats, tells me that in 1980 dollars, today’s $50 is equivalent to $1.46! That is REAL inflation!
In 2011 dollars, $50 today is equivalent to $34.78!
I’m not sure of the accuracy of ShadowStat or Grok, but we seem to have a rather lop-sided “triple peak”!
We’ve still a long way to go!
In 1964 a full troy ounce of silver was worth $1.40 ($1 FV had .715 oz’s silver content).
Today, $1.40 will buy half as much silver found in a war nickle (which has .056 ozt).
Current spot silver is $50.1726 futures is $47.53 – that’s over 5% backwardation!
GIDDYUP !!
US debt. 1980 1 trillion 2011 15 trillion 2025 37 trillion. Much higher prices expected over time. Bumpy road.
