Data service question re Canadian markets
My charting software includes an option to download quotes from most worldwide exchanges via Yahoo Finance.
Last spring, Yahoo terminated the historical data API download option. (Or Verizon did).
Yesterday, the current quotes API option was also eliminated.
I pay for another data service that supplies historical data, but only end of day and no Canadian or Aussie data.
Does anyone know of a manageable way to fetch OHLC Vol data for Canadian tickers for import into Excel (txt or csv)? EOD would be fine. Thanks!
I had the same problem and switched to alphavantage (https://www.alphavantage.co/). It’s been fine, not as flexible in the options but the data’s available and free.
Thanks PT.
I was looking into AV right when you chimed in.
Looks like a good service, but their options seem to be set up for one ticker symbol at a time, emphasizing historical. My collections are large, so I’m usually wanting one OHLC quote per day for hundreds of issues at a time. I have an email into them checking to see if they have other options.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to use EOD data for that service. It’s free for US markets, used to be free for Canadian, then 10 / month, then they raised the price and I cancelled my subscription. But maybe worth your while to check it out.
I actually can retract my all points bulletin on this.
My existing EOD service does support Canadian symbols.
But it does so 2-3 hours later in the day, vs. 1-2 hrs after the close for US issues.
So I should still be able to weigh in on what I see on your side of the fence.
One of the main keys for reading the PM top in 2011, was that I saw weakness on smaller issues on Venture developing before Toronto or AMEX, clueing me in. So even if I don’t trade them much, I like seeing the trees in the forest.
