Sex-selective clauses in surrogacy agreements are exposing a growing trend of treating children as commodities.

A homosexual couple rented a Chinese woman in a rural village for £93,000 ($125,000) to serve as a surrogate – but plans to ask for a partial refund if she gives birth to a girl. According to The Christian Institute, the two men “used genetic testing to prioritise the implantation of male embryos.” Surrogacy is banned in China, and surrogacy payments are illegal in the U.K., except for costs deemed to be “reasonable expenses.”
