Lavrov: Washington’s Ukraine Policy Unchanged As US Continues Pouring In Arms & Intelligence
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was in Atlanta Friday and into the weekend, and while there he issued some surprisingly blunt remarks to reporters on the sidelines of a G20 meeting, related to the status of Ukraine peace dialogue involving the United States. European officials at the G20 summit were upset and agitated that he was there in the first place, at the invitation of the Trump administration.
Lavrov told reporters that Russia’s demands and goals for ending the ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine remain completely unchanged. He also at one point lashed out at Washington for continuing policies which serve to make peace more distant.
Lavrov said: “Fundamental issues are not being resolved. Sanctions remain; all the sanctions from [former President Joe] Biden are echoed by the current administration.”
He said U.S. cooperation on sharing intelligence with Ukraine had grown, while arms supplies continued, pointing to a State Department announcement on Friday that it had approved the sale of 500 Patriot PAC-3 missiles to Ukraine. The charge that the US has actually increased intel-sharing with Ukraine really stands out, given it directly contradicts a slew of recent mainstream media reports saying it had been cut or at least throttled.
