CANADA – Editorial: Auf wiedersehen and au revoir to EU farce – Toronto Sun
If this is Monday, Canada is likely an associate member of the European Union (EU). By tomorrow, we’ll have a “special relationship” with the organization. By the end of the week, we could have “an ever-closer association” with the EU. Or, in the words of one British comedian, Canada could become the first EU member “by VPN.”
Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the EU, has repeatedly called Canada’s status “associate membership.” Several EU members balked at that, notably Germany, which says it wasn’t consulted. We share its concerns. Canadians haven’t been consulted either. There’s been no debate in the House of Commons about whether this country wants to join.
