….. Today almost nobody arrives that way. You land at an airport: a corridor, a stamp, a taxi. No statue. No flame. Nobody tells you what this place is for.

Maybe that is part of the problem now. Not just who arrives – but that nobody greets them with the idea any more. Not the statue, not the school, not the country itself. A civilization that stops telling newcomers what it stands for soon forgets it itself.

The flame still exists. A French foundry, Atelier Missor, has just raised a bronze Prometheus with a torch beside the launch site of the rockets built for Mars – paid for by the sculptors themselves, the way Liberty was paid for by ordinary people.
