Venezuela’s interim leader vows to work with U.S. after Trump threats

Venezuela’s interim leader, Delcy Rodríguez, has publicly invited the United States to collaborate on a cooperation agenda focused on shared development and international law, marking a significant shift from her earlier defiant stance following the U.S. capture of President Nicolás Maduro.
This change in tone comes after President Donald Trump warned Rodríguez that she could face a “very big price” if she does not comply with U.S. demands, even suggesting her consequences could be worse than those faced by Maduro.

Rodríguez, who was appointed interim president after Maduro’s capture, stated on Telegram: “We extend an invitation to the U.S. government to work together on a cooperation agenda, oriented toward shared development, within the framework of international law, and to strengthen lasting community coexistence”.
Trump, speaking on Air Force One, emphasized that the U.S. needs “total access” to Venezuela’s oil and other resources to rebuild the country, and reiterated his warning to Rodríguez that non-compliance would result in severe consequences.
Despite her current overture, Rodríguez had previously condemned the U.S. operation in a televised address, vowing that Venezuela “will never return to being the colony of another empire”.
The U.S. military operation that led to Maduro’s capture has drawn international attention, including condemnation from Cuba, which reported 32 of its citizens were killed during the operation.
