Ownership & Cargo: While the ship itself is Panamanian-registered, reports indicate a Chinese company holds title to the approximately 2 million barrels of Venezuelan crude it was carrying.

The oil was reportedly destined for Asia.

Sanctions Status: Unlike the first vessel seized on December 10 (the Skipper), the Centuries was not under previous U.S. sanctions.

This represents a significant escalation, as the administration is now interdicting non-sanctioned vessels carrying Venezuelan oil.

Blockade Announcement: The operation followed President Trump’s December 16 order for a “total and complete blockade” of sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela.

The Operation: The “pre-dawn” seizure was led by the U.S. Coast Guard with assistance from the U.S. Navy in international waters.
