Protecting US oil interests in the Ven-Guyana border dispute. Don’t always accept everything on Wikipedia but I’ve read many pieces on this issue and they seem to back it up.

Yup. This began last winter.
Still seems to be in stalemate mode, but VZ was poised to become the aggressor as they felt they had historical claims on the western half of Guyana, and moved their troops first.
Like they don’t have enough crude in the ground already.
