1,500 tarantulas found stuffed in sponge cake boxes at German airport
Creepy story and clueless reporting. This story is reported in a terrible half assed way. Rather than report on the cruelty to the species and profiteering angle, how about at least mentioning the possible motive. Maybe using and or selling them to commit assassinations? https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tarantulas-sponge-cake-german-airport-customs/?d
Selling Tarantulas to commit assassinations?
Generally, Tarantulas are not poisonous to humans.

Didn’t know that, thanks for the info.
Used to play with them as a kid. You can coax them to crawl on your hands and arms. They’re common where I used to live. My wife was grabbing the sliding door handle in the dark to our back yard patio when she squished something soft. It was a tarantula, or what was left of it, about the size of a palm. They’re pretty harmless unless provoked, and even then, the bite will not kill you. Might sting a bit. Some are huge and would rear up if annoyed. People keep them as pets in terrariums.
Interesting. So I guess it was more about smuggling to sell for profit?
