Looking at the chart of the cocoa price since late 2022 shows a parabolic increase over this 16 month period. From just below $2300 per ton to a $5600 intraday high on Friday. A hundred and forty three percent seems like a huge increase(and it is) but some perspective is warranted. For those who may be mathematically challenged, this works out to a price increase from just over $1 per pound to just under $3 per pound. While no one likes to have to pay more for their candy and hot chocolate etc. it is still only about 20 cents per ounce. While that is only part of the final cost of your chocolate bar or cup of hot chocolate, the cocoa farmers in Ghana and elsewhere deserve some additional profit for their work. The parabolic rise should flatten from here (they usually do) and I will continue to enjoy my modest amounts of daily chocolate intake.
