I think there’s a wealth of experience and talent here. Cool heads are what we’re going to need through the coming years. One step at a time, and certainly no ‘to the moon’ hype. Evidence based forecasts and sensible analysis should keep you one step ahead. For now, it’s keeping an eye on support levels in the $1400 area, resetting indicators, then the likely surge towards $1700/$1800.

Northstar …On another note and right up your wheelhouse…would you agree that there are misguided and or disingenuous
people in the climate change field who are also the equivalent of these “to the mooners”
I have seen many predictions that we are ALL doomed and that the world as we know it will basically end within a decade if we don’t take drastic steps.
I know you believe in Climate Change as a reality but what is your experience with the extremist radicals including Sweet Greta .

I know it’s a very hot topic (pun intended), and yes, there is a huge amount of misinformation out there. Those of us who have long careers in the field of meteorology and climate science just want to keep increasing our understanding of all the planets complex interactions. What I’d say is this – My organisation really isn’t influenced by government. Our work, and our predictions are complete independent of any government policies. It would make zero difference to us if the predictions said the world was going to stay static, or cool down. Governments of left and right leaning politics have come and gone. Our funding is there because we provide global services to aviation, military, first responders etc and also warnings of severe weather. We only employ around 2000 people, so we’re quite a small organisation. We just gather all the data, verify it, test it and develop models to show how the gases in the atmosphere will affect future climate. The evidence is, in my view, overwhelming. Our forecasts are on track and proving to be accurate. The temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere (surface to approx 50,000ft) is rising. Certain gases act to trap heat. Those gases, especially CO2, have risen enormously since the industrial revolution, and are now higher than we’ve seen for tens of thousands of years. Climate has changed enormously in the past, but that was before modern society. We are heading towards a very big shock. Already, some are finding that flood or drought are making their part of the world uninhabitable (even here in the UK). This will accelerate in coming decades I’m afraid. We are very confident of that. We are 10 years or so of passing the point where we are able to put in place the changes that will stop this. The world isn’t going to end anytime soon, but much of the world’s population and its flora and fauna will suffer greatly.
Thank you, NorthStar, for the reasoned and cogent response. My college science was meteorology, where we were taught to examine the best evidence and draw our conclusions from that. It is still the best practice we have. The evidence is compelling that climate change is real, and its effects are likely to be devastating. Keep up the good work and keep posting your wonderful charts.
Thanks Norwegian. I know many people remain to be convinced, and social media has given a platform for so many to spread false information. All we can do is keep doing the science, present it to the world, and hope it makes a difference. I fear for future generations though, as we’re edging ever closer to a mass extinction event (huge reduction in number of species and bio-diversity). All the very best to you 🙂

On a side note.. I’ve noticed LOTS of stock market systems and gurus as youtube commercials. Since easily 8-12 months… And this has NOT stopped US markets from going up. I have a feeling “contrarian” media/news/charlatans/ads must attain a even higher level than what we could imagine to be used as “contrarian” exhaustion. Ex. you grandma asks you to invest in gold.
And they are ALL making their followers money as the bull marches on
meanwhile the legions of perma stock bears preach TOP TOP TOP and go short !
