Canada poked the bear, and they are SWIFTLY finding out.
Do not underestimate Trump’s ability to make deals.
Crossing t’s and dotting i’s before closing off imports from Canada into the USA – or assigning 100% tariffs perhaps??
That would cause great problems and financial stress across Canada (which is already commandeering CPP funds and selling publicly owned assets paid for by the taxes of generations of citizens to global corporations)??? With 48% of Canadian Manufacturers supposedly considering moving to the USA, would this increase to a much higher level to avoid the loss of customer relationships?
A downward spiral feels like it is underway….just my opinion of course
If Canada loses many of it’s manufacturing jobs — will Canadian governments be “forced” to commit citizens for international service to carry the weight of their agenda — and now that Canada is a full fledged member of the EU Military Support Organization (NATO 3.0??) — would they go so far as to “volunteer citizens” as backfill for when Ukraine runs out of males? And how does this all fit with WEF/UN Agenda 2030 goals?
Imagine if Trump started poaching wealthy Canadian retirees with an offer they could not refuse. RRIF’s are not recognized as a tax free vehicle until drawn upon but he could work out a deal. Also once a Canadian declares themselves as a non-resident in Canada, the Canadian can withdraw from his/her RRIF and face a final with-holding tax of 25%. That’s the only tax hit, 25%. Under some tax treaties it may only be 15%. Not sure about the US.
Put conditions on the renewable VISA. Buying a house of a certain value, buy your own health insurance, can not work and you do not have the ability to tap into US benefits like Citizens can. No voting rights until there is a pathway to citizenship. Different than the Golden VISA path to instant Citizenship.
Imagine if only 100,000 took advantage of such an offer and may end up paying $50,000 each to the IRS annually. A cool $5 billion extra for their coffers and these VISA holders need to pay their own way. It would stimulate their economy from other expenditures.
I see it as a win-win for both parties.
Its also a feasible option vs starting over in a foreign country at the advanced age of retirees.
US Americans have been “Canadian cousins” for a century and only in the last 2 years has politics attempted to make them the enemy that wants war! Why turn your back on your best friend OR find new friends elsewhere if you already know where you can go that will feel comfortable and safe.
If Trump made the offer – many retirees would join the rush south already underway by Canadian manufacturers….
