In 1967 I was making $1.75/hr as a sheet metal modelmaker apprentice. I had a new car payment, a rent payment, and I had two kids with no insurance for their birth. Wife not working.

At $87,460 it comes to $1,681 per week. That means today, with that low income, (because of all the imports) you can’t afford a one bedroom rental, a new car payment, or two kids and have no medical insurance and wife not working.

My wife Peg used to say….”The bigger the explanation, the bigger the lie”. (Think about all those long mining reports too, I never read them)

In todays tiny little valued US dollars, to possibly match my old $1.75/hr minimum wage should be $55/hr meaning $2200/week, and you might be able to rent a one bedroom apartment for $2200/month. Only god knows what the three year car payment would be for a new very complicated imported car.
