A submarine explores a remote Atlantic site and finds 200,000 radioactive waste barrels hidden for decades
The discovery was made during the NODSSUM research missions, where scientists used the Nautile submersible to explore a dumping site containing more than 200,000 barrels of radioactive waste discarded during the second half of the 20th century.
Historical records cited by the CNRS show that France alone disposed of more than 46,000 barrels during operations in 1967 and 1969.
