U.S. Pay Checks have reached there most unaffordable level in history – 1890 to 2025
My grandfather unskilled labor had eight kids and his wife did not work. My father skilled labor had 5 kids and his wife didn’t work. I was skilled labor I had two kids and my wife didn’t have to work.
So all the bull crap the mass media throws up about we need affordable housing or affordable medical insurance etc etc should be change to we need affordable jobs. Boycott imports.
Similar pattern in my family — good point!
I “seem to recall” posting a chart of wage gains over several decades (minimal) — it wasn’t pretty!
America (and Americans) had no competition to speak of after World War II.
Europe was destroyed. Japan also to some extent.
But not only did Europe rebuild, but so did Japan, tapping into SE Asia and kick starting the Tigers.
Now only VERY skilled (relatively unique) labor enjoys strong demand.
Average or low skilled labor now faces competition from around the world. Except for local services.
That is the REALITY, and closing off imports would only enable (protected) incumbents to raise prices and further raise the cost of living.
You can’t turn back the clock.
