But quits were high again, too: People voluntarily leaving their jobs rose to 3.9 million from 3.6 million in May — close to the record-breaking 4 million quits in April, the highest level since the Bureau of Labor Statistics started tracking this data in 2000. Both my wife and her older sister who both worked in downtown TO don’t want to “go back” either. I was quite surprised to hear them say this because I thought the social side of the workplace was always a substantial part of the reason most people want to go out and work.
Maybe it’s the old “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”. Government lockdowns and interference in our lives have revealed to many of us that meaningful social interaction and the freedom to spend one’s time any way they want are more important than more work and more money.
