GOOD BYE CHARLEY
Update…Original post 2021
In the Brutal Winter of 2004-2005 A Ferile Male Tabby and Ferile Female Calico made their way to our back porch . I built them a small shed and heated it ..Fed them ..gave them penicillin in their water when they both got sick. They were wild BUT in the spring The female stood by the door and wanted in.
We let her in and within a few minutes she dropped 5 baby Boys . We gave 2 away and kept 3.
Mom ( Crooky ) nursed them for 3 months ..then when done…snuck out back to the wild
Dad ( Ton Ton) came in too…and stayed 🙂
I just had to put down the last brother this morning…
He was healthy and happy ….slept right beside me all night last night ( first time )
Woke up this morning an I noticed he couln’t pee…took him up the road to a country vet
She opened him up…found a tumor the size of a grapefruit.
I had to let him go
Always devestating…but this time …this guy’s last days were happy and peaceful …no suffering !
Thats the way to go .
Good by Charley , My best baby boy !
THE ROMANS
Left …..Brutus (aka Tuss)….. April 2005 … July 2021
Middle… Caesar ( aka Marley )….April 2005……July 2020
Right…..Cicero ( aka Charley)….April 2005……Sept 2024
One More Thing I just realized .
Ton Ton ( The Dad ) showed up originally with a couple of Porkipine Quills in his Eye. By the end of the winter he had removed them but also removed his left eye . NATURE !
Fast Forward 20 YEARS …As I was driving up the country road to the Vet to be with Charley when she put him to sleep…just before i got there… a Porkupine slowly sauntered across the road . I stopped to watch but didnt take in the meaning…until just now
WOW
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful majestic beings. Obviously happy, healthy, well-cared for.
A beautiful group of siblings.
I get my cat fix whenever I visit someone with a resident feline.
Love cats. I’m not able to have one at this time.
I miss them.
They are smarter than most people I know.
Aww how sweet! Am amazed you were able to get them all together and looking at the camera at the same time.
You know, if this was scary mystery movie, I’d say Cicero knocked the other two off and it’s either you or the donkey next.
Condolences. Great photo. How is Cicero holding up?
Will now the mice be playing?
Thanks All. Appreciate this .
Cicero was always the aloof one . But On Brutus’ last night with us he cuddled up with him
When I had to put “the Brute” in a cage the next day Cicero ran away fast ( in the house..they have never been outside..cars and coyotes )
I thought I wouldn’t find him when I came home but he was at the door and is staying right with me . Petty cool .
These guys are almost 20 Lbs . Big Boys
Very nice looking cats, look like Maine Coons or Norwegian Forest Cats. All from the same litter?
Yes…A feral mom knocked on our door 16 years ago and walked in and had 5 baby boys on the kitchen floor
We have had them from day 1
The mom was a smallish calico and the presumed dad was a big yellow tabby…Don’t know how we got Coon Cats but yes…I was told they likely were .
Condolences FGC!!! It’s hard to lose a loved one.
Great picture to remember them by!
You just experienced what Carl Jung called “synchronicity.”
There is one certainty when we are born–that we are all going to die. I personally believe in an afterlife, so I do not see death the same way an atheist might (i.e., as finality). For me, a being’s death should in some ways be celebrated since the burdens and stresses of life are lifted away and they can finally rest.
Charley had a long loving life.
These cats were wonderful and FGC is a great human being.
It would be great if another cat mom will knock again at the door ^..^
Thank You Mamare and everyone
Thank You
