There is a committee. The Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying AMAD. Reconvened for 2026. Its job, on paper, is to review whether Canada is ready to expand MAID to people whose sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness. March 17, 2027 is the deadline. Ten months away. The committee hears from experts. Reports to Parliament, assesses readiness.That’s the story they’re telling you and here’s what they’re not.

While this committee was being reconvened. While the readiness review was supposedly still an open question. The Government of Canada funded and launched the Canadian MAID Curriculum the first nationally accredited, bilingual MAID education program for licensed physicians and nurse practitioners in this country.

Seven modules. Over 2,000 doctors, nurse practitioners, residents, and students trained. One module specifically on MAID and mental disorders. They were training doctors to kill people with mental illness while simultaneously holding hearings about whether they should.

The hearing asks: Should we expand MAID to mental illness? The training says: Here’s how. 10.5 accredited credits. Funded by Health Canada. What exactly is the committee reviewing if the government is already training the providers? Make them answer that.
