SHAVE AND A HAIRCUT…2 BITS
AI FAUX PAS
I asked Duck AI …What is the Silver melt Value in Canadian Dollars of a Pre 1965 Canadian Quarter Today ?
The answer came fast ( 2 seconds ) and the math was spot on BUT…Do you see the Big Mistake ?
I also asked Groc and He had silver at $33 US Today ! Dummy !
Ha…GIGO !
……….
So lets do the Calculation Manually
The Silver Price in Canadian Dollars is ~ $80 ( YOU AI MORONS )
The Quantity of Silver in a Canadian 80% Quarter is ..according to Groc
$80 X .15 = $12
So….A Shave and a Haircut ..2 Bits ( ie 2 Quarters) in early 1960s was 50 cents
The same 2 Quarters have $24 of Silver Content Today ….
Now look at the price of a haircut and “shave” from Magic Cuts a Popular Hair Place in Canada
So… that’s ~ $16 + ~ $8 = $24 for a Shave and a Haircut
WOW…Now You can see Silver Really IS a Store of Value…..right down to the Penny
HA !!!!
The only difference is the Hair…Mine has depreciated at least 50%
Obviously I have too much time on my hands …sheesh
…..

While you are correct regarding maintaining purchasing power I thought I remembered that “two bits” actually meant 25c or one quarter so I googled to be sure.”The old saying “two bits” referred to 25 cents, or a quarter of a dollar. This term originated from Spanish-American silver dollars, which were divided into eight “reales,” or “bits”. Therefore, two bits meant two of those pieces, or one-quarter (\(2/8\)) of a dollar.”
Yes I did the same but the Math was so perfect I kept it to my self
You outed me
but that was in 1900 …so …who cares
🙂
Now what the HELL are we doing UP at 2:45 AM ?
Thats the real question !
At our age, I think subconsciously we know our days are numbered so we try to get as many hours as possible out of each of those remaining days.
$C16 for a haircut seems like a huge BARGAIN.
Last time I shopped around in CO, most places had increased to $30 (US).
Even waiting and getting scalped while on a border run (with Desert Mexicans), prices there were up to $10. (better cuts there though)
