End of Day Dollar Drop

   For some time there has been the idea that those pronounced transient movements of quoted PM prices, mainly when trading is thin, are not mistakes but rather signals to show colleagues where the market is going to be pushed in hours or days to come–signals of direction and extent of move. You would think there would be subtler methods, but my vague impression is that often the market has in fact seemed to follow.

   Is it possible that the dollar will recover to where it was before the apparent drop–then sink over a few hours or perhaps days to ~97.034, where it will stay for a day or so? I feel silly suggesting this idea, so I don’t mind in the slightest seeing it ridiculed.

   The dollar index is for the most part determined by a basket of 4 currencies: Euro, YEN, Pound, and Loonie. There are others, but they are relatively tiny. Which one, or ones, appreciated against the dollar?

   So yeah, maybe a data glitch or as Karl mentioned – a transient move to signal the market.
   If a signal, that’s about as subtle as a boot to the backside.

   Monday morning update – Dollar surges past 97.7, so just some sort of data glitch.
