Robert Davies, a physics professor at Utah State University, has estimated that the project would create a total thermal load of about 16 gigawatts.<\/strong><\/p>\n
That thermal load would be \u201cthe equivalent of about 23 atom bombs worth of energy dumped into this local environment every single day,\u201d Davies told <\/strong>The Verge<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. \u201cYou\u2019re trying to cool hot radiators by blowing hot air over them.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
The facility would continuously release an extraordinary amount of heat into one desert valley.<\/strong><\/p>\n
One preliminary estimate suggests daytime warming of 2\u00b0F to 5\u00b0F and nighttime warming of 8\u00b0F to 12\u00b0F, while Davies has warned that some scenarios could push nighttime warming as high as 28\u00b0F.<\/strong><\/p>\n
\u201cThe thermal load from the proposed Stratos project is extreme,\u201d Davies said, according to <\/strong>The Guardian<\/strong><\/em>. \u201cOf course it has effects. One of those effects is this: this facility imposes substantial drying on a watershed and ecosystem already in active collapse.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
