SO THE REPORTS OF UP TO A DOZEN MINES IN THE AREA ARE NOT CONFIRMED BY ANY SOURCE?

Correct.

As of now, reports claiming “up to a dozen mines” in the Strait of Hormuz are not independently confirmed by any source.

What we can state with certainty

No neutral or independent authority (UN, IMO, commercial mine?countermeasure operators, neutral navies, or released satellite analysis) has publicly confirmed the presence, number, or recovery of mines in the strait.

dawn

Iran has formally denied laying any mines, in a direct AFP interview with Deputy FM Majid Takht?Ravanchi (“Not at all. This is not true.”).

Where the “dozen mines” reports come from

Mentions of possible mines trace back to U.S. government claims or U.S. officials speaking anonymously to media outlets, asserting Iran may be laying or preparing to lay mines.

These claims have not been accompanied by publicly released evidence (no imagery, no mine?clearance confirmation, no recovered devices shown).

cbsnews

What would count as real confirmation (and hasn’t happened yet)

Any of the following would qualify—but none have been publicly reported:

Confirmation of mine detection or clearance by neutral naval forces

Commercial shipping advisories citing confirmed mines (not just “risk”)

Insurance war?risk notices explicitly referencing verified mines

Released satellite imagery identifying deployed naval mines

Bottom line

? Confirmed: Iran’s denial.

? Not confirmed: The existence of any mines, including claims of “up to a dozen.”

?? Current status: Allegations only, based on unverified claims, not corroborated evidence.

If you want, I can monitor the specific indicators that would signal confirmation (mine?clearance activity, insurer bulletins, or neutral naval statements) and summarize only when something concrete appears.
