Ukraine is asking the U.S. to co-sign its safety in order to agree to stop the war.<\/p>\n
But that\u2019s a trap, and Trump knows it.<\/p>\n
If the U.S. promised to defend Ukraine, then Ukraine would suddenly hold the trigger: it could pick a fight (by \u201ctesting\u201d borders, launching operations into contested territory, etc.), then invoke the guarantee when Russia inevitably retaliates. That means U.S. boots on the ground, dragged in on Ukraine\u2019s timetable, not ours.<\/p>\n
