{"id":511227,"date":"2021-09-30T19:40:35","date_gmt":"2021-09-30T23:40:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/goldtadise.com\/?p=511227"},"modified":"2021-09-30T20:07:01","modified_gmt":"2021-10-01T00:07:01","slug":"enlightened-algos-democrats-demand-increased-corporate-controls-to-protect-citizens-from-their-own-dangerous-curiosities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/goldtadise.com\/?p=511227","title":{"rendered":"Enlightened Algos: Democrats Demand Increased Corporate Controls To Protect Citizens From Their Own Dangerous Curiosities"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>&#8220;<strong>Two centuries ago, rulers sought to convince subjects that they should embrace the notion of \u201cenlightened despotism,\u201d living without rights under the beneficent watch of overlords.\u00a0<\/strong>Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II summed up the idea with the maxim\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newhartfordschools.org\/site\/handlers\/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=2657&amp;dataid=694&amp;FileName=Enlightened_Despotism.pdf\">\u201ceverything for the people, nothing by the people.\u201d<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>&#8220;Today, we seem to be living in an age of enlightened corporate despotism, where social media and technology companies watch over what we read and what we discuss to protect us from ourselves.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Once considered unAmerican and authoritarian, censorship has become a rallying cry from the left.\u00a0<\/strong>Indeed,\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2021\/08\/18\/more-americans-now-say-government-should-take-steps-to-restrict-false-information-online-than-in-2018\/\">new poll shows roughly half of the public supports\u00a0not just corporate censorship but government censorship<\/a>\u00a0of anything deemed \u201cmisinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><u><strong>Calling for companies to protect us from ourselves is the ultimate in enlightened despotism.<\/strong><\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Once free speech is defined as harmful or violent, the algorithms can take it from there.
