Trump says the Houthis have reached out to Washington with a message: they don’t want a fight with the U.S.
He said the group has signaled it doesn’t want American forces coming after it and claimed the Houthis are now allowing “most ships” to pass through.
That’s a notable claim considering the Houthis have just made major gains along Yemen’s Red Sea coast, putting them in an even stronger position around the critical Bab el-Mandeb shipping route.
For now, Trump seems to be saying: if they leave U.S. interests alone, he’s not looking for another fight.
