German Chancellor Merkel commented on the possible introduction of military conscription for women:
“To the question of whether women can serve in the military, there is an answer; whether they should — there is no answer.
This is something that needs to be discussed within the framework of political and socio-political discourse. I can imagine this [service for women], but it will certainly be the third or fourth step.
Right now, we will take the first and second steps in the right direction, and then continue the discussion.”
