The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is facing a class-action lawsuit for allegedly using Google technology to covertly install tracking apps on over one million Android phones as part of the state government’s efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 through contact tracing.

Nobody has any real idea what their phone could be doing or running. You might as well assume your device belongs to Google/Apple or whoever and you’re only borrowing it to use as a “private” phone. I’m expecting that soon there will be a huge demand for phones that run community based rather than corporate based operating systems and allow the owner to have complete control over the device. Linux phones for instance. Android is actually a version of linux but Google is too involved in it for it to be safe and private.
